1 PhD student in the research education subject: Ecology
The importance of ecological linkages between aquatic and terrestrial organisms for the stability and resilience of headwater streams
Applications are encouraged for a 4-year PhD position focusing on the ecology of boreal headwater streams. Because of their small size and intimate connections with surrounding landscape, headwater streams are easily influenced by human activities in catchments and riparian zones. The doctoral student’s research will seek to better understand the importance of ecological linkages between aquatic and terrestrial organisms for the stability and resilience of stream ecosystems. Special focus will be on structural and functional relationships between biota and water chemistry and how climate change may alter these relations.
Qualifications: An undergraduate degree in biology/limnology or other relevant subjects. Good writing skills and knowledge of stream ecology and entomology is meriting. Projected studies include both the analyses of long-term data and experimental field work. Written applications should include a CV, copies of exams and other relevant supplements, personal references, and a copy of your MSc. thesis.
Form for funding or employment: 1st year grant (utbildningsbidrag) and 20% employment, 2nd–4th year full employment (doktorandtjänst)

A person has basic eligibility for third level education if he or she has taken a second level qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level. Those who met the requirements for general eligibility before July 1st, 2007, i.e. had completed a programme of higher education for at least 120 credits or the equivalent, will continue to do so until the end of 2015."
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.
