Position description
The KKS-funded synergy-project HERO is announcing a PhD-position in analysis and synthesis of heterogeneous embedded systems.
The need for high-performance computing is increasing at a daunting pace and computational heterogeneity is the answer. High-performance computing platforms are increasingly becoming heterogeneous, meaning that they contain a combination of different computational units such as CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and AI accelerators.
The overall goal of HERO is to provide a framework that enables development of optimized parallel software, automatic mapping of software to heterogeneous hardware platforms, and provision of automatic hardware acceleration for the developed software. This PhD-student will focus on analysis and synthesis issues in development of such software. The position is in the intersection of compiler and software-hardware co-design.
The student will work closely with the project team of about ten researchers in HERO but is also expected to be able to work independently.
Qualifications
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
To qualify as a PhD student, you should have a master's level degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent. Prior knowledge about compiler, software-hardware co-design, high-level synthesis, and hardware design is considered a merit. Additional knowledge in applied mathematics, open source software, software modelling, artificial intelligent is also considered as merit.
The position requires a strong motivation for research, good verbal and written communication skills in English. Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organization.
