Work description
According to the Higher Education Ordinance a person appointed to a doctoral studentship should primarily devote himself/herself to his/her own studies. A doctoral candidate may work, however, to a limited extent with education and administration. However, before a doctoral degree has been awarded, duties of this kind may not comprise more than 20% of a full-time post.
The doctoral student will pursue graduate studies in the field of Computer and Information Science, in particular Media Technology, with a doctoral degree as the goal. He/She will also conduct research in the field of Computer and Information Science with a particular focus on the areas of digital technology enhanced learning in schools and computational thinking in education.
Digital technology enhanced learning, also called educational technology, is an interdisciplinary field of research and development where educational, engineering, behavioral and design sciences meet. This makes it possible to study and explore different educational processes and how to support them with a rich set of tools and methods in order to find answers to what gives value and efficiency for students and teachers. From an educational viewpoint, computational thinking can be defined as a set of problem-solving methods that involve expressing problems and their solutions in ways that a computer could execute.
Recently, official documents issued by the Swedish government have acknowledged the importance of how to support different learning processes with digital technologies and how programming and computational thinking should be integrated in many subject matters in schools. These latest developments should be taken into consideration as they are central to this area of research.
The doctoral student will actively participate in research and teaching activities at the Department and in the research group. More information about the doctoral studies in Computer and Information Sciences, which includes Media Technology, can be found here:
