1 PhD student in the research education subject: Biology
Molecular plant-microbe interaction
During the last years of research we have significantly enhanced our understanding on plant defence systems that to some extent resemble the immune system in animals. However, one of the most unknown areas is about soil-borne pathogens and how plant hosts respond to them. In Sweden we have considerable problems on Brassica oil crops being infected by Verticillium longisporum. This fungus is not only soil-borne but also develop resting bodies (microsclerotia) that can survive in soil for many years before they germinate and infect a suitable host. The research work is based on V. longisporum-Arabidopsis/Brassica interactions and includes functional genomics, genetics, signalling mechanisms, physiological and biochemical analysis to dissect the interaction and the function of microsclerotia. The candidate will be linked to the research school in Organism Biology. The position is located at the Department of Plant Biology and Forest Genetics, which has a flourishing research environment. Qualifications: Higher university degree in biology/molecular biology/biotechnology engineering (Degree of Master or Master of Science) with emphasis on genetics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology and bioinformatics. The selection will be based on the written application, cv, diploma/exam work, personal references, good knowledge in English and an interview.

A person has basic eligibility for third level education if he or she has taken a second level qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second level. Those who met the requirements for general eligibility before July 1st, 2007, i.e. had completed a programme of higher education for at least 120 credits or the equivalent, will continue to do so until the end of 2015."
Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dissertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.
