The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. PhD student in applied physics
formally based at Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM)
Duties
The PhD student will develop soft, textile actuators (artificial muscles) based on electroactive yarn and textiles. She/he will explore various materials, constructions, and fabrication of textile actuators, both independently and in collaboration with our group members and partners within the EU project of which this project is a part.
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies. The application shall have a MSc in (applied) physics, mechanical engineering, chemistry, engineering biology, or equivalent. Experience of actuators, conducting polymers, or smart textiles is a merit.
The applicant shall be driven, creative and analytical, and should like to solve problems. She/he should be able to work effectively both individually and in a multidisciplinary team with other researchers and students. The applicant shall have good communication skills and excellent skills in English.
Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.
Starting date
1 January 2019 or by agreement.
Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department's salary scale.
