The PhD position will be based in the Surface Physics and Chemistry division of the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Campus Valla, Linköping, Linköping University. The Surface Physics and Chemistry division is renowned for its pioneering research on surfaces and interfaces of semiconducting and conducting polymers and molecules, and is a part of the Swedish Strategic Research Area of Advanced Functional Materials.

Hereby advertises a position as

PhD student in Applied Physics
formally based at the division of Surface Physics and Chemistry, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Linköping University.

Duties
The focus of the research is to investigate the properties of organic semiconductors and how to tune them for use in applications (e.g. energy conversion, light emission, memory and sensing). You will fabricate organic semiconductor thin films and use a wide variety of surface science techniques both in house and at synchrotron radiation laboratories to characterize them. You also will carry out device fabrication and (opto)electronic characterization.

As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Qualifications
Master degree in physics, chemistry, engineering physics, material science, or equivalent background. Verbal and writing communication skills in English. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to communicate clearly and to interact with colleagues and staff. The interested candidate should be strongly self-motivated, show a keen interest in science and fundamental research, and be willing to work in a team.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.

By agreement/August 1, 2018
