The students are expected to be involved in the development of advanced nanowire-based solar cells, photon detectors, and light emitting devices, and will conduct experiments including, e.g., growth of nanowires using MOVPE, device fabrication with electron-beam lithography technique, device characterization with SEM and AFM, and electrical and optical measurements. The students should carry out basic research on physics as well as development of novel device concepts for applications. The project will be in close collaboration with theory and materials science within nmC and PhD4Energy.
The PhD studies contain a course part and a scientific project. The PhD student will be expected to carry out several months of internship in a company or major research facility. Active participation in outreach activities and teaching at the undergraduate level might also be a part of the job.
Behörighet
A formal requirement for doctoral studies in physics is an advanced university degree within a related field, such as a Master's degree in physics or nanotechnology or equivalent, or substantial advanced course work at the master level or comparable, including an independent research project. Furthermore, the acceptance is based on the estimated ability to accomplish your postgraduate studies. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is a requirement.
In addition, the student must fulfill the following two eligibility criteria:
1. Be, at the time of recruitment, in the first 4 years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in Sweden, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is envisaged.
2. At the time when employment begins, must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Short stays such as holidays and/or compulsory national service are not taken into account.
Bedömningsgrund
Selection to postgraduate studies is based on the expected ability to perform well in the studies. The evaluation of the ability to perform well is based primarily on the results of studies at the basic and advanced levels, in particular:
1. Knowledge and skills relevant to postgraduate studies within this area, such as a broad and thorough preparation in physics. This can be documented by appended documents.
2. Estimated ability to work independently and the ability to formulate and solve scientific questions. This ability can be established, for example, based on undergraduate research experiences, a masters thesis or in a discussion of scientific problems during a possible interview.
3. Skills in written and oral communication.
4. Other experience relevant to postgraduate studies, such as professional experience.
