Are you looking for an exciting PhD position in relation to agricultural and food economics? Would you like to contribute to the understanding about the economics of the agricultural sector and to the scientific discipline of agricultural and food economics? Are you highly motivated to undertake PhD training?

Name of research project/thesis
Description:
We are looking for two PhD students who would like to join the Agricultural and Food Economics group at the Department of Economics, SLU. One PhD project will be related to animal health economics, the other one will be related to the broader field of agricultural and food economics. The PhD students will be expected to carry out supervised research leading to a PhD thesis as well as taking PhD courses to the equivalent of 90 credits. They are also expected to manage uneven workload.

In the Agricultural and Food Economics group you will be offered a stimulating context with colleagues who focus on various aspects of agricultural and food economics, including agricultural policy, trade and production economics. The group is intensively engaged in interdisciplinary approaches to encompass the empirical complexity of the agricultural sector and combine theoretical insights from the agricultural and food economics discipline with insights from other sciences, in particular the natural and behavioural sciences. For instance, the PhD project related to animal health economics will be conducted in close collaboration with researchers in animal management and health, as well as with the industry.

Qualifications:
Basic eligibility for third level education in Economics. The successful applicants are expected to possess basic knowledge related to research methods in Agricultural Economics. The positions requires very good communication skills in English. The successful applicants should be strongly motivated to work with the research questions and undertake PhD training. The successful applicants are also expected to work independently and to establish own initiatives to move the project forward and to work well in a research team. Advanced knowledge related to statistical analyses will be considered of merit, as will an understanding about the Swedish or European farming sector. Personal qualities will play a significant role in the recruitment process.

A person has basic eligibility for third cycle education if he or she has taken a second cycle qualification or has completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 higher education credits at second cycle education. Upper secondary school grades equivalent to English B/English 6 are a basic requirement.

Selection among applicants meeting the requirements is made with reference to written application including curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, one copy of the dessertation for masters or undergraduate degree, a list of at least two references familiar with the applicant's qualifications, certified knowledge of the English language and an interview.

Please observe that applicant/s chosen to participate in an interview shall hand in certified true copies of certificates, diplomas and transcripts from previous studies at an internationally recognized higher education institution (university or university college) and transcripts in connection to the interview.
