Ruminant nutrition and forage quality
Rations for ruminants containing locally-produced feed, of which forage fibre and protein are important nutrient sources, can result in biologically and economically sustainable production systems. Various factors, such as seed mixtures and nitrogen fertilization strategies, influence the quality of forage protein and fibre, which affect feed efficiency and production of ruminants and their impact on the environment. The aim of the project is to find ways to utilize the potential of grass-clover forages as protein and fibre sources for ruminants when fed in combination with other locally-produced feeds. A forage production and quality trial will be conducted in close collaboration with The Rural Economy and Agricultural Society Sjuhärad and a feeding trial with bulls of pure dairy breed and dairy-beef breed crosses will be performed in top modern new facilities at Götala Beef and Lamb Research Station, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).

Financing is available for two years for the projects mentioned above and there are possibilities for financing for another two years in projects dealing with evaluation of fibre and protein fractions from grass-clover leys. All projects give opportunities for collaboration with scientists from other countries.
