We are looking for a research engineer who wants to work as an industrial PhD student in cooperation with Solid Mechanics at KTH (Royal Institute of Technology) in Stockholm. The main purpose is to work with fibre-based packaging and develop simulation models to predict printing performance on packages. RISE BioEconomy is a world leader in packaging printing. We strive continuously for new knowledge and relevant tools for packaging printing.

Tasks
You will perform high-quality research as an industrial PhD student. You will have large possibilities to steer your working situation. You do, however, need to be enrolled as PhD student at KTH, which includes course works at PhD level and you need to defend a Licentiate thesis within 3 years.

Within the PhD project you will work with modelling and simulation of printing processes in which complex interactions occur between print form and paper substrate. You will develop material models and methods to simulate printing dynamics, which includes ink-paper interaction and contact mechanics. In addition, you will work with laboratory tasks in our projects, having opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve practical problems and to gain professional work experiences.

This project is part of our ambition to expand the use of numerical tools to bring benefits to the paper industry value chain. Simulation and visualization of complex processes, e.g. printing, converting, etc, which link paper/board properties with printing dynamics and final print result of package are needed.

Qualifications
You have a MSc in Engineering Physics, Mechanics Engineering, Material Science, or similar. You need to fulfil the demands to be enrolled as a PhD student at KTH Solid Mechanics.

Personal qualifications
We have high demands on initiative skills, the ability to complete tasks and cooperation. In projects you need to be able to run task from initiation to finalization and reporting. The work includes both internal and external contacts. Therefore, we value that you can interact with others. We assume you can write and communicate in English and preferably also in Swedish.

Other information
The position is placed at RISE BioEconomy in Stockholm. The position is a project employment during the PhD enrolment. First for 3 years with a possibility for 2 more years.
