RISE Acreo, a unit of the ICT Division of the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB, is a Swedish research institute within electronics, optics and communication technologies. RISE Acreo aims is to offer cutting edge ICT solutions for existing and future demands, creating sustainable growth in industry and society. The department of Printed Electronics at RISE Acreo, located in Norrköping, is strongly engaged in the development of next generation electronic solutions for bio-medical applications (e.g. wearables and Internet of Things) by active collaboration with industrial and academic partners via national and international R&D programs.RISE Acreo, together with the Linköping University, is currently managing the state-of-the-art printing manufacturing facility PEA-M (Printed Electronics Arena - Manufacturing), chemistry laboratories for ink formulations and laboratories for physical and electrical characterisation of printed electronic devices.Read more at: www.acreo.se; https://www.printedelectronicsarena.com/en/; https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics.The position The department of Printed Electronics at RISE Acreo is looking for an early stage researcher for a PhD student position, the main focus area of the employment will be printed transistors for applications in Bio-Electronics. The position is part of an Innovative Training Network (ITN) project (call: H2020-MSCA-ITN-2018) entitled "Biosensing with ORGanic ElectronicS (BORGES)".Duties The appointed PhD student will have the duties to evaluate different printing processes (including inkjet printing, screen printing, gravure printing, doctor blade coating and aerosoljet printing) for the manufacturing of organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) and electrolyte-gated organic field effect transistors (EGOFETs) on different substrates (e.g. PET, paper etc.) by using commercial inks as well as inks developed within the consortium. The impact of dimension variations of the printed features (e.g. critical structure dimensions and film thickness), different device architectures (e.g. vertical vs. lateral arrangement and extended gate architectures) and varying manufacturing process parameters (e.g. curing temperature, curing duration, intensity of UV light and sintering) on the OECT and EGOFET performances will be evaluated, and the manufacturability and processability of different inks will be the core aspects of the project. The project will include collaborations with external partners, including short stays in Italy (ca. 1 month) and France (ca. 1 month), to further develop technology applications. The student will be enrolled in the industrial PhD program of the Linköping University. As part of his/her program, the student will have to follow courses (60 Credits); the student will be encouraged to design a multidisciplinary program of courses to help him/her to boost creativity and open mind thinking.Qualifications Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are, or have been, admitted to graduate studies. The ideal student will have a Master 's degree in Materials science, Applied physics, or similar subject, with significant expertise in the area of material development and characterization. During his/her Bachelor/Master studies, the student should have taken courses in polymer physics, nanotechnology, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and material characterization. Knowledge in screen printing and/or inkjet printing is desirable. The student should be initiative, have a genuine interest in science and for learning new skills, and show constancy for experimental work. Furthermore, the student should be able to work in collaboration with other scientists of different cultural/scientific backgrounds.Research at RISE Acreo and the Laboratory of Organic Electronics is carried out predominantly in English, so relative fluency is favorable.Further mandatory requirements According to the funding agency requirement, the candidate should be an early stage researcher (less than four years of experience in research) and he/she must not have lived in Sweden for more than one year in the previous three years. Starting date and appointment time The starting date is August 2019, or by agreement. The appointment will continue until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. The total time of the appointment must not exceed the equivalent of three years of full-time research training.Salary The salary will be based on the allowances, set by the EU commission as part of the program, and on the regional taxation.Application procedure Within RISE we like different and we are convinced that diversity contributes to an innovative environment where we together challenge boundaries and develop new knowledge and skills for the future. We can't promise you an easy job, but we can promise you an exciting journey where we, together with committed and competent colleagues, contribute to a sustainable future. Do you want to come along on the journey? Apply for the position by sending your CV and a cover letter including the names of two reference persons no later than June 20th 2019. We may later also ask you to send in a copy of your Master and Bachelor degrees (English version or translation needed). The data of the applicant will be collected in order to realize the selection procedure such as described in Grant Agreement No. 813863 - Horizon 2020 BORGES and will be communicated by RISE Acreo to the Recruitment and Training Committee which is composed by representatives of the beneficiaries having part in the project.
