About the research project
Low-loss and highly decoupled FR3 (7-24 GHz) arrays, potentially based on three-dimensional elements and classical Huygen source type of element supporting element-specific band-selection filterig will be investigated. Also, irregular and non-periodic antenna arrays providing increased reconfigurability and thus better re-use of limited volume, and broader reconfigurability over frequency and beam steering range through feed weights will be analyzed.
Cross-disciplinary approaches, including the fields of electromagnetics, structural mechanics, and manufacturing technology are required in order to find the right balance among antenna performance, cost, and sustainablity. In this respect, 3D all metal antennas offer potentially many benefits over their planar counterparts, such as efficiency, wider band and scan range. Also, FR3 band antenna arrays can be realized in energy and material-efficient manner by additive manufacturing methods, such as 3D printing. 3D printied antenna array will also be investigated as a part of the PhD project.
This Ph.D project is part of the research collaboration between Chalmers and several industry partners such as Ericsson, Qamcom, Sivers Semiconductor, Northernwaves etc. The PhD student will be enrolled in a doctoral programme of Chalmers and is jointly supervised by supervisors from the academic and industry sectors.
