Titel: PhD position in medical science - Long noncoding RNAs in cancer
Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: Reference number: UR 2016/520. Project title: The role of long non-coding RNAs in cancer signalling pathways. Job assignments: We are looking for an ambitious applicant for a PhD position at the Institute of Biomedicine, to undertake interdisciplinary projects in the fields of cancer genomics and long noncoding RNA. The aim of the project is to enhance our understanding of the functional role of long noncoding RNAs tumor initiation and development. The ideal applicant should have a background in bioinformatics, or an equivalent combination of computer science and biomedicine. In addition, candidates expected to have good experience in cell and molecular biology techniques. The applicant expected to have bioinformatic skills with the use of established genomic tools for analyzing of high-volume RNA sequencing from tumor data sets, as well as development of novel bioinformatics methods. The work will therefore involve programming, statistical analyses and developing new pipelines. The applicants should have experience in working with Unix environment, PERL or Python programming and R language. Previous experience in handling RNA sequencing data could be advantageous. The doctoral student is expected to develop independent ideas, and to communicate research results in oral and written form. Candidates should use cell and molecular biology techniques to pursue findings from large-scale data sets.
Beskrivning av kvalifikationer: To be admitted to third-cycle studies you must fulfill both the general and the specific entry requirements. The general entry requirements is fulfilled if you have: 1. completed a degree at a second-cycle level, or 2. completed at least 240 credits worth of studies of which at least 60 credits must be at a second-cycle level, or 3. acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. The specific entry requirements is fulfilled if you have completed the English B/6 course or is considered to have acquired equivalent knowledge through previous studies.
