The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg is the largest mathematics department in Sweden, with around 200 dedicated employees. Contract terms and what we offer
• The PhD-positions are fully funded from start

• As a PhD student, you will be enrolled in a graduate program at the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Please, read more about our graduate program here.
• The position is limited to four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position to five years.
• A dynamic and inspiring working environment in the coastal city of Gothenburg. Gothenburg.
• A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).

About the project
As a PhD student in our division, you'll have the opportunity to explore research projects in any of the areas represented by our faculty. These include:
• Algebraic Geometry
• Complex Geometry
• Number Theory
• Mathematical Physics
• Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence
Your role and responsibilities
As a PhD student, you will:
• Become an integral part of a vibrant international research environment.
• Deepen your expertise in your chosen field while working toward your PhD thesis.
• Engage in intellectually stimulating discussions and collaborative opportunities.
• Develop and present your own innovative ideas, both orally and in writing.
• Travel occasionally for research-related activities or conferences.
• Contribute to departmental work (approximately 20% of your time), primarily through teaching duties.
This role offers a unique blend of independent research and collaboration, empowering you to grow as both a scholar and a contributor to the academic community.
Who we are looking for
To be eligible, you should have:
• A Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field (or expect to complete such a degree by 15 August 2025).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
