Mälardalen university, School of Business, Society and Technology (EST), is now offering a position as PhD student in Industrial economics and organization within the international research program Digitized management - what can we learn from England and Sweden?

The research program will develop knowledge on digitalisation and its consequences for managing in organizations in Sweden and the United Kingdom. The research will have impact for public and private organisations undergoing digital transformation. In addition, the program will contribute, conceptually and methodologically, to the development of what has been termed 'sociomateriality' - theories where the social and the technological are viewed as mutually constituting and as equally important for organisational change. The program includes four projects: projectification, leadership, flexibilization and the experience of technology and engages in total 6 researchers at Mälardalen University, Västerås and Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.

The PhD student will work with empirical cases using ethnographic methods. Considerable presence at the case study sites, to allow ongoing observation, will be required.

The PhD student will also be expected to develop a deeper understanding of the sociomaterial perspective and to contribute to knowledge production in one or more of the four projects in the program.

The PhD student will work in an internationally collaborative context with close relations to researchers in Sweden and in the UK. The program also includes yearly program-meetings in the UK and travelling to conferences in Sweden and abroad.

The PhD student will also take PhD level research training - adding up to 90 ECTS in Industrial economics and organization, and s/he will work for the Division of Business and Social Sciences at MDH, EST School, 20% of the time, undertaking of teaching and/or administrative duties.

The employment starts August 1st or after agreement.

The successful applicant is expected to hold or to be about to receive a degree within one of the following:

• master of science in industrial engineering and management (or another engineering master with at least 60 ECTS in industrial engineering and management or business administration)
• a four-year Business degree with a specialisation in Business Administration (equivalent to master or magister) or
• largely equivalent knowledge acquired in any other way within or outside the country
In addition, the following requirements are posed for this position:
• experience of qualitative research, for instance gained through writing of bachelor and/or master thesis
• ability to communicate fluently in writing and orally in Swedish as well as in English

The selection criteria is based upon the ability of the candidate to undertake PhD education within the area. Earlier study results, research merits, the quality of previous scientific or investigation work carried out by the applicantwill therefore be taken into account.. The applicant's relevant work experience and personal qualities, as they relate to the ability to undertake PhD education, will also be considered.

Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).

Merits
Importance is also given:
• documented experience of, or interest in, the area of study as well as the methods to be applied and/or other related areas of study
• work experience of situations that include social as well as technical dimensions
• experience of research work with ethnographic method
• knowledge of some of the following theoretical approaches: Science and Technology Studies, sociomateriality, practice-based approaches (in organization studies), performativity (in organization studies), or critical management studies.
