Contract terms and what we offer
• The PhD-positions are fully funded from start

• The position is limited to four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position to five years.

• A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).

About the project
We aim to recruit one doctoral student in mathematics to work on a project focused on the numerical analysis of SPDEs, with the following key objectives:
• Develop innovative numerical algorithms for neuroscience-inspired SPDEs, such as stochastic FitzHugh-Nagumo systems.
• Establish rigorous mathematical foundations for analyzing the performance of the proposed numerical methods.
• Implement and apply these methods in practical, real-world scenarios.
Your role and responsibilities
As a PhD student, you will:
• Be enrolled in the graduate program at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Chalmers University of Technology.
• Take ownership of your research, developing and refining original ideas.
• Communicate your findings effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Participate in departmental activities, including teaching duties, which will account for approximately 20% of your time.

Who we are looking for
We welcome candidates with:
• A master's degree (or equivalent corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits) in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Candidates expecting to complete their degree by the start of employment (August-September 2025) are also encouraged to apply.
• A strong background in mathematics, with particular interest in computational methods for stochastic (partial) differential equations, probability theory, or stochastic analysis.
• Proficiency in English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional qualities that will be considered meritorious include:
• Experience in computational methods for SDEs or SPDEs, probability theory, and stochastic analysis.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
