At the School of Business, Society and Engineering our students are studying to be for example Bachelors or Masters of Engineering, political scientists and business administrators. Here we have the research specialisations of Industrial Engineering and Management, and Future Energy. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.
Mälardalen University's School of Business, Society and Engineering is recruiting PhD-candidates in Industrial economics and organization as part of 'Sörmlandssatsningen' where Eskilstuna municipality and the Region Sörmland support Mälardalen University to strengthen research and education within the area of digitization. The initiative aims at developing and strengthen the regional labor market and support Mälardalen University in developing new, unique programs and courses. The empirical research performed by the PhD-candidates will therefore be carried out at companies in Sörmland and the candidates will be positioned at Mälardalen University's new campus in Eskilstuna. The PhD-candidates will also be able to apply for an association with the national graduate school Management and IT.

Position description
The PhD-candidate will focus his/her research on gamification (i.e., the introduction of game-like elements in non-game contexts) and its consequences for organization and management and daily work practice.
This PhD-candidate:
• is expected to read up on organizational theory (and related theory areas); primarily STS (science-and-technology studies), socio-material theory and critical theory,
• will conduct empirical research using qualitative methods and is expected to be comfortable with spending time "in the field", and
• is expected to create synergies with other research projects on digitization, at Mälardalen University as well as on other Swedish, and foreign, universities.
The position may require travel in Sweden as well as abroad for participation in different collaborations and conferences. Good command of spoken and written English is required. The position is based on a 80/20 service between the Ph.D. study and lecturing/administration.
Qualifications
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
To be accepted to the PhD-program in Industrial economics and organization a Master degree in business or engineering is required.
