Project title
Optimisation of radionuclide therapy: radiobiology and mikrodosimetri
Job assignments
The specific aim of this project is to examine the possibilities to optimise the therapeutic effect of radiolabelled pharmaceuticals used for tumour therapy. Specifically studies involve the biological effects on tumour and critical normal tissues combined with microdosimetric estimations to enhance the knowledge on the relation between dosimetry and effect. The aim is to increase the possibilities of cure without too severe side effects.
Studies will be performed on human neuroendocrine tumours and relevant critical organs. The experiments will be made at EBM (Laboratory of Experimental Biomedicine) and Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. Patient studies may also be included later in the project. The effect of radiation on tumour and normal tissues will be done using various methods concerning cell survival, apoptosis and proliferation, and specific biomarkers. Detailed models of tumour and critical normal tissues (mainly kidney, liver and/or bone marrow) will be utilised for microdosimetric studies of relevant radionuclides for therapy using Monte Carlo technique. The obtained results will then be used for determination of dose-response relationship for the therapeutic studies. Relations/models for prediction of therapeutic effects and side effects on normal tissues will be developed. These results can then be used to optimise treatment strategies in radionuclide therapy.
PhD positions are financed mainly through education grants during the first two years and employment as doctoral students during the last two years and pertains to a doctoral degree.
Eligibility
The general entry requirements are fulfilled if you have either 1, a second cycle degree (usually described as a masters degree) or 2, completed courses at an academic level corresponding to at least 240 education credits. At least 60 of these credits must be at second cycle level. 60 credits is equal to one year of full-time studies. You also need to fulfill the specific entry requirements which is an English language requirement; Engelska B.
Assessment
After the application deadline has passed, an initial assessment of the candidates eligibility is made at the faculty office and sent to the project supervisor for selection. The process can then take up to 6 months before a candidate is selected.
