Sandvik Coromant, in collaboration with University West, Trollhättan is now offering two positions for industrial PhD candidates at the future research school SiCoMAP. The research school is supported by the KK Foundation (KK).
Key performance areas
As a PhD candidate employed in industry, you have the opportunity to develop research skills in cooperation with academic research networks and also to apply developed knowledge and methods directly in real engineering projects. At the company, you will be part of cross-functional teams involving colleagues from different knowledge areas. The work also includes contacts and collaborations with both internal and external networks, universities and customers.
Within Modeling of Cutting Process, your main research tasks will be to develop knowledge concerning how geometrical alternations influence the cutting process, and subsequently, to establish state-of-the art methods. Furthermore, development and integration of knowledge platforms are natural parts of the research activities. Your main activities at the company will be related to:
• Development and establishment of methods for the analysis of cutting process
• Support product development project teams utilizing analysis and simulation within metal cutting process
Within Modeling of Drilling Dynamics, your main research tasks will be to develop knowledge concerning how drills behave during the drilling process and about the influence of different parameters, and to establish criteria for achieving a stable drilling process state. Your main activities at the company will be related to:
• Development of kinematic models for the drilling process
• Development of criteria for a stable process
• Support for product development project teams utilizing analysis and simulation within metal cutting process
Your profile
We welcome individuals with MSc. degrees in related fields. Knowledge in the fields of metal cutting applications and simulation of processes is considered an additional qualification. An attraction to product development and metal cutting is important for this position. For these positions you must have or be able to develop a deep interest in product development and be pro-active, self-motivated and computer literate. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are essential.
