At the School of Business, Society and Engineering our students are studying to be for example Bachelors or Masters of Engineering, political scientists and business administrators. Here we have the research specialisations of Industrial Engineering and Management, and Future Energy. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

Position description
The School of Business, Society and Technology has one Ph.D. student opening as part of 'Sörmlandssatsningen', an agreement with Eskilstuna municipality and Landstinget Sörmland for supporting Mälardalen University in strengthening research and education within the area of digitalization. The initiative aims at developing competence in the region by supporting Mälardalen University in developing new programmes and courses that are unique in Sweden and based on research. Your empirical work will, therefore, be mainly carried out at organisations located in the region of Sörmland and you will also be positioned at Mälardalen University new campus in Eskilstuna. As new Ph.D. students, you will also benefit from Mälardalen university possibility to apply for an association with the national graduate school in management and IT, which will offer many of the doctoral courses you take as a Ph.D. student as well as give you the possibility to join a unique network of Ph.D. students and senior researchers. Not only, as digitalization is one of three focus areas for research in the Business and Society division, as a new Ph.D. student you will become part of a lively research environment conducting a number of projects concerning digitalization, management and organizing, in collaboration with international actors and regional organisations.

This position is for a Ph.D. student focusing on digitalization and its consequences for organization and management, specifically for daily work practice. Within such a framework, the Ph.D. student and supervisors will discuss possible interesting area of research. Therefore the Ph.D. student:

• is expected to work with literature review of research concerning the relationships between technology and society
• will conduct empirical research using qualitative methods and is expected to be comfortable with spending time at the studied organization(s) to collect empirical material
• is expected to collaborate with other research projects on digitalization, at Mälardalen University (information about them can be found on the website, under research specialization industrial economics and organization and mainly within the New Management Practices group) as well as with other Swedish and foreign universities.

In addition, the doctoral student is expected to have good written and oral knowledge in English. Knowledge of the Swedish language is not a requirement.

For the position, several different backgrounds can fit, e.g., a major in business administration, engineering, system science, science and technology studies. The key is that the experience allows one to support a broader and more in-depth work in the areas mentioned above.

The employment starts February 1st 2020 or after agreement.

The position may include teaching or administrative duties up to 20% of a fulltime in addition to the time for completing the PhD program.

Qualifications
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).

The selection criteria is based upon the ability of the candidate to undertake PhD education within the area. Earlier study results, research merits, the quality of previous scientific or investigation work carried out by the applicantwill therefore be taken into account.. The applicant's relevant work experience and personal qualities, as they relate to the ability to undertake PhD education, will also be considered.
