However, there is a current knowledge gap in the understanding of how private forest owners' perceptions and ultimate acceptability of management practices such as continuous cover forestry to increase multifunctionality and sustainability of forest ecosystems.

The profile of the student we are looking for is a person who is committed to behavioral studies based on economic principles and quantitative methods. The candidate will be responsible for: integrating economics and forest resource management knowledge into relevant research design; developing relevant research questions; applying appropriate econometric and other analytical tools; writing scientific manuscripts and compile a Ph.D. thesis. Coursework is included in the Ph.D. program.

The Ph.D. program consists of 4-year full-time studies with the position contracted based on annual evaluations. The position is partly funded by FORMAS-sponsored projects under the 2022 call "New forest management practices for multiple societal goals".

Qualifications:
To be eligible, the candidate should hold at least a Master's degree in economics or related field (e.g. agricultural economics, development economics, natural resource economics, forest economics), or a strong quantitative interdisciplinary program. Knowledge in natural resource economics, demonstrated capacity to integrate forestry and economics concepts are considered extra merit. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. To be able to speak Swedish is preferable but not mandatory.

Of extra merit is experience writing scientific manuscripts. Advanced documented knowledge in the use of R, SAS, Stata or other analytical software is considered extra merit.

Place of work:
Umeå, Sweden

Forms for funding or employment:
Employment up to 4 years as Ph.D. student, with yearly evaluations.
