At Linköping University we embrace innovative thinking. Constantly challenging ourselves has been our strongest motivator ever since we opened our doors in 1975. We are driven by seeking answers beyond the traditional and across subject boundaries. If you are too, we would like to see you at our university. Together we can find solutions to the challenges of the day.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology conducts research and offers education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Research, the predominant activity, is often done in collaboration with corporate and international partners. We are one of the university's largest, oldest and most well known departments, encompassing five interacting scientific fields: biology, chemistry, material physics, applied physics and theory and modelling.

LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
Hereby advertises a position as

Ph.D. student in efficient light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on organometal halide perovskites
formally based at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM)

Duties
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Semiconductors based on organometal halide perovskites have shown great success in photovoltaic applications, demonstrating high power conversion efficiency over 20%. At the same time, they also have a huge potential for the design of functional materials and devices with new properties. For example, they demonstrate strong electroluminescence and tunable emission energy, making them a promising candidate for efficient LEDs.

The scope of this project is to synthesize stable organometal halide perovskites with different bandgaps and to fabricate efficient LEDs with different colors. The photo-physics of these novel materials will also be investigated.

This project is partially funded by a prestigious ERC Starting Grant awarded to Feng Gao at Linkoping University. In addition, the PhD student will have the unique opportunity to carry out research in an exciting multidisciplinary and international research environment - this position is a joint PhD position between Linköping University (LiU) in Sweden and Nanyang Technical University (NTU) in Singapore. The research will be conducted in Feng Gao group at LiU and in Tze Chien Sum group at NTU. The research expertise at LiU is very complementary to that at NTU, with LiU focusing on materials, devices, & device physics and NTU focusing on photophysics.

The degree to be awarded is a Ph.D. jointly delivered by LiU and NTU. In this project LiU will have the role as "Home University" and NTU will have the role as "Partner University". The doctoral student will benefit from both these research environments acquiring a PhD profile showcasing international mobility. The candidates who appreciate academic mobility are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
The applicant has to have or soon to have finished a Master in Science or equivalent in Physics, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Chemistry or equivalent. It is an advantage to have prior experimental experience of what is described in the Job description above - in particular, preparation and characterization of LEDs and/or hybrid semiconductors. Good skills in synthetic chemistry, spectroscopy and/or programming (Matlab, LabView or similar) would be favorable.

Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.

Appointment time
The Ph.D. employment is for 4 years where the student will spend the first 2 years at LiU. During this period the research project will be initiated and coursework requirements should be fulfilled. After fulfilling the formal requirements at LiU the student will continue the research at NTU for at least 1 year. The last period of the Ph.D. project will be done at LiU. During the employment you will primarily devote yourself to your research. The final thesis defence will be carried out jointly according to rules and regulations at LiU.
