The Patent Engineer has an important function as he/she is responsible for protecting the investments made in R&D through, for example, patents. The main focus for the person appointed will be to create and manage a patent portfolio as well as review relevant patents in our industry.
Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will, among others, include:
• Working with our engineers on patentable ideas
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications
• Co-ordinating, instructing and guiding our network of patent law firms in different countries
• Docketing and logging information about our patents
• Performing freedom-to-operate searches
Education & Experience:
• Master of science in engineering with a strong understanding of mathematics and algorithms
• 3-5 years' work experience from relevant field and position, for example as patent engineer, patent examiner or a junior patent attorney having prosecuted at least ten patent applications
• A brief understanding of the various patent systems such as filing routes, time-lines etc
To be successful in this role we believe that you should have a genuine interest in technology and the transformation of technical ideas into patent applications. We believe you have 3-5 years of experience working as a patent engineer or a patent examiner, and it would be an advantage if you additionally have some years of R&D experience. Although we work with some patent law firms, you are expected to write and file most the applications yourself. A European qualifying examination is not a requirement and we can offer a mentor for the patent prosecution parts for junior applicants. All our applications are written in English and hence strong skills in the English language are required. Excellent Swedish language skills are also required.
Since you will lead the patent work, there is a requirement that you can work independently in a structured manner without daily guidance. This also requires a strong attention to details.
The work contains a certain degree of administration and docketing.
