Patent Counsel - Electric (Intellectual Property Department)

The Intellectual Property Department is one of the global Group functions and exists within Husqvarna Group's Technology Office.

Position/Job Description:
We are now seeking a highly skilled Patent Attorney for a Patent Counsel position located in Huskvarna, Sweden. This position will primarily focus on new products and services that relate to robotics, software, smart products, battery technology, the Internet of Things ("IoT"), and other electronics-based technology.
The Patent Counsel position reports directly to the Head of Intellectual Property, who reports to the Chief Technology Officer.
The successful candidate will be part of an expert team of IP professionals and will gain excellent international experience and have opportunities to grow with the business. With R&D centers located around the world, the position provides opportunities for international travel.

Duties:
• Identifying innovation focus areas and creating global patent strategies in co-operation with Product Management & Development and IP management.
• Providing internal training about IP as a business asset and tool.
• Supporting R&D and other business in identifying and protecting new inventions, and identify potential patent infringement risks.
• Collecting and processing invention reports from R&D.
• Leading patent review meetings for IPR decision making.
• Providing IP intelligence as patent landscaping, competitor monitoring, state-of-the-art investigations, patent infringement investigations, etc.
• Performing patent clearance/freedom-to-operate investigations and design-around assistance.
• Drafting and prosecuting patent and design applications and preparing appeals, oppositions, re-examinations, etc., both in-house and by external agents.
• Managing outside counsel globally and working within a budget.
• Managing a product category's patent portfolio and/or another docket of patents, patent applications, invention reports, and investigations.
• Supporting IP litigationactivity.
• Providing IP support in IP-related transactions.

RequiredQualifications :
• 5+ years in a patent firm, law firm, or industry company.
• A University degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
• EPA (fully or partly qualified), the U.S. Patent Bar Examination,
• Drafting / prosecuting applications directed to algorithms, software, controllers, and other computer-implemented innovations.
• Patent clearance/freedom-to-practice investigations.
• A high level of English language proficiency.
• Knowledge of patent law and international patent prosecution regarding to the patenting of computer-implemented inventions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills including interaction with other people, analytical skills.
• Must be innovative, professional, proactive, confident, a fast learner, and a self-starter with strong business acumen.
• Must respect the other cultures, able to travel internationally.

Desired experience
• Managing global patent portfolios and working with foreign patent agents.
• Transactions, drafting and negotiating license agreements, joint development agreements, confidentiality agreements.
• Patent and/or trademark litigation.
• Working knowledge of other languages is a plus (e.g., Swedish, German, Japanese).
• International work.
