You will join a successful team: In 2020 we filed a total of 182 patent applications at the European Patent Office which cemented our position as a pioneering innovator. We possess around 10.000 individual patents or patent applications with are subsumed in approximately 1.200 patent families. Read more in this news article on our website: LINK. Our IPR team, with almost 20 experts and administrative support, is located in our Innovation Centres in Austria, Linz as well as Sweden, Stenungsund and Finland, Porvoo.
You will...
be assigned a patent portfolio, depending on your technical background and experience.
handle activities of a qualified patent attorney and pro-actively and on request provide assistance, advice and support to our business units to ensure and maximise the protection of intellectual property assets.
drive the awareness of internal customers and business units on IP topics and actively share information within the team and to internal customers.
provide freedom-to-operate (FTO) investigations and opinions.
draft and file patent applications.
prosecute national/regional and international patent applications.
represent Borealis in patent examination, opposition and appeal proceedings, either directly or via external service providers.
About you
You hold a scientific technical degree (PhD, M.Sc. or similar), preferably in chemistry and/or chemical / process engineering. Any technology background in polymer chemistry and/or process technology is a bonus.
For this role, you will need to be a qualified Patent Attorney of a major jurisdiction (EP, US) in the chemical field. You need some years of professional experience as a patent attorney in the chemical industry or a related field and/or private practice. We are also happy to receive applications from partly qualified candidates. You have profound knowledge of patent law and established case law of relevant jurisdictions, including the European Patent Convention and established case law of the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office. You hold strong expertise in several areas of IP (selected from searches, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, EP, US and CN patent practice, infringement opinions).
As our company language is English, you should be fluent in this language. Any local language skills are a bonus.
Your business thinking enables you to drive the protection of intellectual property assets and rights in the best interest of Borealis. You are known as an analytical and outcome-oriented person with good coordination and organisational skills.
