SIPRI has a large number of partnerships with diverse organisations. The latter include donors, grant recipients, national and local cooperating organisations, and a significant number of major international institutions including UN agencies. SIPRI and its work gain great benefit from these partnerships. Many of them are central to the institute's strategic goal of contributing to a global conversation on international peace and security issues.
The purpose of the post of Partnerships Manager is to coordinate the institute's strategic partnerships and to support the Institute Director and others in their work, networking and relationships with the strategic partner organisations.
The Partnerships Manager has both knowledge and understanding of SIPRI's without seeking to be expert on any single one of our topics, is inspired by the benefits of linking knowledge (SIPRI) with practice (partner), aligns with SIPRI's values and strategic commitment to contributing to a global conversation on peace and security, and has the diplomatic and social skills needed to get diverse groups working together.

Tasks and responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Partnerships Manager will be
Ensuring strategic partnerships are managed in the best interests of both partners and of the joint work around which the partnership is structured;
Ensuring that the way in which strategic partnerships are handled consistently reflects principles of transparency and mutuality;
Ensuring that as partnerships are formed and develop, they are adequately resourced and that budgeting for different partnerships is consistent;
Ensuring that SIPRI fulfils its part of the partnership agreements and the various MoUs and sub-agreements including budgets that are entered into in the course of an extended period of partnership;
To join in the development of new strategic partnerships as appropriate and as requested by the Institute Director; and
Ensuring the Institute Director and Senior Management Team are fully briefed on developments in SIPRI's strategic partnerships.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following experience and skills:
Experience in a knowledge-based organisation, whether in the public, private, third or academic sector;
A demonstrable knowledge of significant parts of today's peace and security agenda;
Demonstrated knowledge of how multilateral organisations work;
Proven ability to work and deliver both in teams and individually; and
Mastery of oral and written English (additional language skills are always an advantage).

Contract period: Starting from as soon as possible. The appointment will be for two years initially with possible extension. The post is full-time. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
The post of Partnerships Manager is based in Stockholm. It is likely to involve frequent travel to spend time with partner organisations. Since some of the partnerships involve field-based research, the post may involve some travel to conflict-affected countries. This requirement must, of course, be balanced by the need to be present in the institute and taking part in activities there, as well as by the larger need for work-life balance.
How to apply: Candidates should submit a resume/CV and a one-page cover letter in English to: partnerships.manager@sipri.org.
The initial closing date for applications is 10 November 2019.
For confidential enquiries contact Director Dan Smith at dan.smith@sipri.org.
SIPRI is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to achieving workforce diversity in terms of gender, nationality and culture.
