The coming months we will have a project where you will operate and document the performance of a microscreen in side-stream filtration applications.

Recirculating cooling towers are an integral component of systems providing air comfort or process cooling in all market segments (Food & Beverage, Power, Pulp & Paper, etc.) by releasing waste heat in industrial applications and in large commercial buildings. Waste heat is extracted to the atmosphere though the cooling of a warm water stream to a lower temperature. The heat from the water stream transferred to the air stream raises the air's temperature and its relative humidity to 100%, before being discharged to the atmosphere.

Because evaporation consists of pure water, the concentration of dissolved minerals and other solids in circulating water will tend to increase unless a portion of the water is discharged (blowdown). Some water is also lost by droplets being carried out with the exhaust air (drift). Make-up water is therefore required to balance water losses and maintain a steady water level in the cooled water basin. The make-up water quality is key in order to guarantee a good water quality in the cooling tower.

Side stream filtration systems reduce suspended solids and debris in the cooling water by filtering 1-20% of the recirculating flow, which leads to less fouling in the system. Decreasing suspended solids can also help reducing biological growth because suspended solids are a good source of food for microbiological organisms. Decreasing biological growth in turn helps to reduce microbiologically influenced corrosion. In addition, scaling can be reduced from side stream filtration by limiting fouling and corrosion by-products, which can also contribute to scale formation on the heat exchange surfaces. Effectively managing these conditions through filtration can optimize system performance, often resulting in moderate to significant energy and water savings.

The coming months we will have a project where you will operate and document the performance of a microscreen in side-stream filtration applications. There for we are looking for a newly graduate with the following skills:

• Experience in water quality analyses

• Preferable if you have knowledge about microscreen filters

• Experience with particle size analysers.

• Handy, does not mind to perform manual work and solving technical problems

• Able to work independently and to accept the responsibility to complete a task with the support of a very talented group of engineers

• Passionate about the environment

• Creative, curious, ambitious, and with willingness to learn and develop as a water professional

• Good command of Microsoft Office tools (especially Word, Excel, and Power Point)

• Professionally proficient in English
