The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) group at the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Technician.

Description of division/group

The Environment, Safety & Health (ESH) Division supports, monitors and assures the implementation of ESS policies, rules, processes, objectives as well as best practices at all levels of the organisation in ESH matters. Within the ESH division, the OHS group is responsible for issues and questions related to OHS aspects for design, installation and commissioning as well as the future operation of the facility. Presently, the ESH Division consists of around forty persons and the division will expand its staff and activities the upcoming years in order to meet the needs of the organisation in line with the progress of ESS towards an operating user facility as of 2023.

Today, the OHS group consists of six employees with some support from consultancy staff. The group is working with the design of the future facility, installation of the ESS machine (accelerator and target) and early commissioning and operations activities of the facility..

Description of main responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role are to give general support to the Area Coordinators for the shared workplaces during installation and commissioning and to operational areas in implementing their local safety arrangements. This role should be considered as very hands on, working with those doing the work out at the facilities.

This includes:

• To give support to the installation teams by providing practical health and safety advice on a range of issues in compliance with ESS rules and procedures
• Support and review of risk assessments
• Safety walks and safety rounds
• Deliver training in OHS topics, includingsite inductions and local safety briefings
• Assist in writing required rules and guidelines for the ESS framework of OHS
• To participate in the implementation of a healthy safety culture at ESS

Qualifications

We expect the the candidate for this position to have 4-5 years of experience within Occupational health and safety and to have basic knowledge of the European and Swedish occupational health and safety legislation. Experience from sites where installations or operation of complex technical systems and components have been carried out is required.

We are looking for a candidate with great collaboration skills, a problem-solving attitude and a true team-player mindset. Experience of working in an international environment is preferred and good oral and written English skills are a prerequisite.

Duration & Location

The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period

Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
