The Controls Infrastructure Group at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Network Reliability Technician in the Machine Division.

Job description and main responsibilities

You will participate in the daily operation of a large and sophisticated data communication network, which will have of up to 300 network switches providing 20,000 ports.

You will work as part of the ICS Infrastructure team a to facilitate the construction of ESS networks and provide end user device with network connectivity. The role will require interfacing and engaging with various teams within ESS as well as cabling contractors, during the installation and commissioning phase of the project.

Your main missions will be the following:

The deployment, monitoring, supervision and maintenance of the ESS Networks.

Coordination of work for cabling with subcontractors. Provide assistance to users for networking problems or for the workflow related to the connection of new systems to the network. Contribution to the technical evolution of the network infrastructure by improving its reliability, security and performance. Your will work together with a technical team of experts, that require tight collaboration with other technical teams within ESS.

At ESS, network devices are mainly composed of Juniper Junos, Cisco/Siemens Scalence, HP Procure and AreoHive Access points. Other products involved in information security are Palo Alto, Nessus and Privileged Access Management. The Controls Infrastructure group also use open source tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, CentOS, Debian, etc.

Required qualifications

• Technical diploma (2-year) in electrical engineering, computing or similar discipline
• The candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in the implementation and operation of enterprise networks.
• Knowledge of network passive and active components is required.
• Good knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, and the awareness of routing protocols, network access and authentication.
• Knowledge and previous experience in the administration of DNS, DHCP, proxies, firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems or Layer 4 and 7 load balancers.
• Previous experience in administrating either Arista, Cisco, Extreme or Juniper network equipment.
• Previous experience in administrating a next generation firewall.
• Previous experience administrating Microsoft Windows servers.
• Previous experience with a scripting language (Bash, Python, Power shell, etc).
• Previous experience with a configuration management tool (Ansible, Puppet, etc) would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of network cabling, connectors, standards and grounding would be advantageous.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
