Are you a hard-working scientist with great knowledge in cellular engineering and cell model generation? Do you enjoy working hands-on in the lab in collaboration with an excellent team to push the boundaries of science? If yes, this position at AstraZeneca might be your next challenge!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an engaged and driven Scientist to join our Cellular Biology Team at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. In this role you will be a part of the Discovery Biology department, developing bespoke cellular models using a wide range of cell engineering tools including the Nobel-winning CRISPR/Cas system. These cellular models will feed into our drug discovery pipeline supporting target validation, screening assays, and detailed biological mechanism-of-action studies.

Join the team that follows the science unlike anywhere else. This is the place for curious minds. Dig deep into the biology of complex disease and uncover breakthroughs. An inclusive environment, we work seamlessly as one. Expanding our horizons, we unite the best from academia, biotechs and the industry. It's by coming together and leveraging our diverse, global knowledge that we can create the greatest and swiftest impact on disease.

What you will do:
In this lab-based Scientist position you will work in a team to utilise your experience in cellular model generation through genome engineering to design, develop and validate models for implementation in drug discovery projects, while incorporating the views of others. In addition, you are going to collaborate closely with others to help drive scientific development in the field. You will apply cellular engineering skills to design, generate, validate and characterise cellular models to progress drug discovery. As well as provide knowledge in genome engineering across various cell types, coupled to validation of the models at DNA, RNA or functional protein levels.

To be successful in the role, we also believe you are a truly motivated scientist with a passion to make a difference for patients all over the world. Along with this we see you as a person who enjoys collaboration and is a good colleague to all. This goes hand in hand with your problem-solving skills, strong delivery focus and communication skills.

Essentials for the role:

* BSc/MSc degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology or a related field, with relevant experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
* Experience in cellular genome engineering from proven design and tool generation through to validation and functional characterisation
* Experience in appropriate cellular biology techniques applied to development of physiologically relevant cellular assays (endogenous gene-tagging, gene expression knock-down, transfection methods)

Desirable for the role:

* Experience in imaging (light microscopy) techniques for cell model validation and imaging assay development
* Experience in flow cytometry including FACS for selection of single cell clones through flow
* Good publication records in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating engineering experience

Why AstraZeneca?
It's our combination of curiosity and courage that drives us, inspired by the possibility of doing things that have never been done before. Empowered to step up, we free ourselves from fear of failure to dig deep into the biology of complex diseases and make bold decisions. Celebrating our successes and failures along the way. Thrive in a place where the brightest and most curious minds seamlessly come together in our inclusive environment.

So, what's next! If you want to be a part of pushing the limits of discovery with us - apply today!

We look forward to get to know you better, but remember to send in your application no later than 20th June, 2021.
