Metallurgist - Process Development Casting and Solidification
Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT) is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a world leading manufacturer of high-value-added products in stainless steel materials, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials and process systems. The product areas comprise Tube, Strip, Wire and Heating Technology, Process Systems and MedTech.
The unit for Technique Metallurgy/Casting at R&D supports the Primary Products division in process, production and market related issues. We are looking for a person with an MSc or PhD degree who is interested in casting and solidification.
Key performance areas
The casting process determines a number of properties of the finished products. It is of greatest importance to fundamentally understand the solidification process and to work with specific questions regarding casting and solidification. It is of the same magnitude of importance to understand the demands on the product. Coupling of the demands with knowledge of the process makes it possible to successfully carry out projects together with internal as well as external customers. Your main tasks include:
• Leadership in process development projects concerning continuous and ingot casting
• Material research throughout the entire process chain, from casting to hot-rolled products
• Participation in process development within all product areas wherever competence in the solidification process is needed
• Investigation, analysis and testing of new methods, procedures, consumables and equipment linked to the casting operations
• Writing of work instructions (procedures) for the casting operations
Your profile
A suitable background for this position is an MSc or PhD degree in metallurgy. Experience of similar work is an advantage.
The position involves contacts within as well as outside the company. Therefore it is of great importance that you have good communication skills and the ability to interact with people on all levels within an organization. Good English, both spoken and written, is essential.
