About us
The Stockholm Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (BUP) Clinical Research Unit is a platform for clinical research and development with special focus on treatment research and diagnostics. Several studies are ongoing in this unit, including the development and evaluation of treatments, register-based research, genetics, eye-tracking, and health-economic evaluations. The studies are done in close cooperation with several research groups at the Karolinska Institute.

The Stockholm Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (BUP) Clinical Research Unit's mission is to strengthen clinical research and development in child and adolescent psychiatry. Our team includes psychologists, medical doctors, nurses and administrators, many of them with affiliations to both BUP and the Karolinska Institute. The unit is embedded within the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research center, on Gävlegatan 22 (Torsplan), where cutting edge expertise in both clinical work and clinical research within child psychiatry is gathered under the same roof.

Assignments
The position includes start up and management of a large scale clinical research project focusing on assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with immunopsychiatric problems.

The first aim of the project consists of setting up a new multidisciplinary clinical unit, cutting across pediatrics, pediatric neurology, rheumatology, and child psychiatry, to cater for the increasing number of referrals of young people with psychiatric symptoms of suspected immunological/inflammatory origin. This broad patient group includes children with obsessions and compulsions (often referred to PANS/PANDAS), but also anxiety, depression, tics or other problems for which a immunological pathogenesis is suspected. A large amount of clinical and biological data will be collected and biobanked in the hope to identify useful biomarkers.

The second aim of the project consist on the design of a definitive randomized clinical drug trial in the same patient group. Recruitment to the trial will be national and involve collaboration with other centres in Sweden.

The position includes management of a multidisciplinary team around the project, which consists of psychiatrists, pediatricians, psychologists and nurses, as well as close cooperation with mainly the pediatric neurological unit at the Karolinska Hospital. The position includes research related activities, such as setting up a study protocol together with a research nurse, overseeing the execution the trial, and publication of results. The position is placed within the BUP Clinical Research Unit with affiliation to David Mataix-Cols' research group at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institute.
