Mechanical Designer - Power Electronics and Electric Drives

At RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers over the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. As MECHANICAL DESIGNER - POWER ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRIC DRIVES within the group Electric Drives you are responsible to optimise the packaging of components in the electrical propulsion system. You will work in close cooperation with other engineering units, Purchasing, Manufacturing and After Market. You will work and prosper in a team that is skilled, innovative and have high passion for the area.

Electric Drives is part of the new and expansive department Electrical Propulsion Systems (EPS). EPS is responsible to design and deliver electrical machines, inverters, battery systems as well as power supply and charging systems for electrified vehicles. EPS cooperate closely with suppliers from all over the world as well as with academia and research organisations.

Job profile:

• Optimise packaging of components and defining requirements on surrounding systems
• Design parts in the mechanical interfaces such as brackets and bridging parts
• Review and support the development of supplier mechanical designs
• Support the Hardware Design Engineers for resolution of mechanical conflicts
• Develop 3D models with suppliers for virtual verification and for development of prototype parts for physical verification
• Deliver and release 3D/2D models and drawings for manufacturing of production parts
• Design reviews (internal and supplier joint reviews)
• Cover all R&D phases from early advanced engineering to production programs

Your profile:

• University education and job experience related to automotive mechanical engineering
• Skilled in CAD/Catia
• Structured, data driven and well developed documentation skills
• Cooperative, transparent and good communication skills
• Business oriented
• Good English skills, verbally and in writing
• Experience from Team Center is meritorious
