Are you a holistic thinker, able to visualize integrated solutions for complex industrial installations, and have an unerring eye for quality? ABB's High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) business unit headquartered in Ludvika - part of the group's Power Grids division - currently has a vacancy for a mechanical design engineer within our plant base design team.

You will be part of the plant design department responsible for plant related studies and base solutions for mechanical and electrical design. Your responsibilities will mainly be to produce models and drawings that can be used in tenders and delivery projects and we also support R&D projects in mechanical design. We are also in the process of setting up our 3D models in virtual reality and if you have experience in that field it could also be a part of your future tasks. We are now looking for you who would like to strengthen our team as a mechanical engineer.

This position offers considerable scope to shape and define advanced High Voltage Direct Current, (HVDC), technologies that will be used in future installations, and will see your decisions influence future projects. The successful candidate will be an individual capable of thinking and acting holistically and independently with high sense of quality.

As a mechanical designer in plant base solutions you will participate in the development of tomorrows preferred HVDC solutions. You will be involved in setting the design philosophy and get the opportunity to understand the reasons behind the design. An HVDC light plant consists of several buildings and the footprint of the site is typically in the area of around 200 x 150 meters and optimizing the footprint is key in reducing the civil cost. You will work closely together with various system departments and also with the delivering organization utilizing the base solutions. The 3D CAD software we use is NX/TeamCenter.

Your overall responsibility will be to ensure the quality of future deliverables with time- and cost-effective solutions. A commitment to maintaining the highest possible quality standards is an integral part of this position as well as a desire and willingness to learn. It is a diverse and independent job, with lots of responsibility and you will have great opportunities to develop your skills within HVDC.

As a person you are highly quality-orientated, structured and organized. It is very important that you are a strong team player with good communication skills. Fluency in English is required. The tasks could vary in complexity and time and span from short tasks to longer assignments.

You are an engineering with work experience within the area of plant engineering for power plants, substations or equal or possibly you have experience from designing high voltage products. You are used to working with 3D software and if you also have knowledge of virtual reality it is a plus. Experience from HVDC is advantageous but not required.

You will be part of ABB HVDC within the Power Systems Division in Ludvika. HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used to transmit power through long distances at minimal loss, using overhead lines, land and sea cable systems.
