GE Healthcare Life Sciences helps our customers, pharmaceutical companies, make medicines that improve the health of billions. The BioProcess Systems department within the R&D organization in Uppsala develops bio reactors, systems for liquid chromatography and columns used for the research and production of biological medicines.
Essential Responsibilities
The department is responsible for all aspects of the development including system design, mechanics, electronics, software, verification and validation. You will work in our R&D department as a Mechanical Design Engineer, developing new systems to simplify finding and manufacturing new biological medicines.
The development projects are cross-functional and global, always in larger teams with high interaction from marketing, sales, QA, service and of course, customers.
Our instruments contain advanced optics, fluidics, electromechanical- and thermal modules and as a Mechanical Engineer you will meet many inspiring people and technical challenges while helping our customers deliver excellent tools to support their work in research labs and production.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Be part of the development of complex mechanical, electromechanical, optical or fluidic components/subsystems and purchased assemblies for meeting system level design specifications. You will detail requirements, develop components and modules, document the design and transfer it to manufacturing.
Work directly with different business functions and with close supplier engagement to meet serviceability, functional and manufacturability requirements and to facilitate a smooth production transfer.
Coordinate procurement of prototype material as well as oversee the prototype build and verification of the design.
Create excellent designs that will be easy and robust to manufacture, are cost effective and at the same time fulfill the need from the customer.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar experience.
Knowledge in the design of precision mechanical devices using 3D cad tools such as ProE, SolidWorks or IDEAS.
Knowledge in designing in metals and plastics and in a variety of manufacturing processes like injection moulding, machining, sheet metal fabrication, extrusion and casting of aluminium and welding.
Demonstrated ability to meet time commitments.
Curious and innovative.
Able to see the bigger picture and a customer oriented mindset.
Excellent in personal planning and with a balanced view on adding innovation and delivering new products to the marketplace.
Fluent in English and Swedish (both spoken and written).
EU work permit.
Desired Characteristics
Master?s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience from the pharmaceutical industry.
Experience from development of analytical instrumentation or similar devices.
Experience from developing mechatronics and moving fine mechanical parts.
Knowledge of MD/EMC/LVD/ UL/IEC WEEE/RoHS regulations/standards and how they apply to designs.
