Mechanics are responsible to build or re-build test objects and test vehicles. They manufacture prototype parts and prepare vehicle for testing. They support the project during tests. They work according to current project planning and instructions. They are responsible to report design incompatibilities and deviations from time plan. The Prototype Mechanic must be skilled in performing technical work following projects in his/her technical area.
Main Responsibilities
• Perform work as described on work order according to plan
• Manufacture prototype parts
• Fully understand steering, brake, frame and driveline system
• Build or modify complete chassis
• Driven in advanced troubleshooting for complete bus
• Build or modify complete electrical harness
• Read and interpret drawings on paper or in DMU (Digital Mock-up)
• Follow-up measuring points lists
• Request completing information when needed
• Report all deviations impacting timeline, deliveries of tests and test results
• Report all deviations impacting security
• Update their technical knowledge with new technologies including measuring technology
• Contribute to improvements in processes and daily activities
• Experience sharing to test engineers in order to improve quality and product cost
• Improve quality and product cost through experience sharing
Additional Responsibilities
• Consider the Volvo Values in all work and communication
• Knowledge of work environment due to legal requirements, recommendations and guidelines
• Forward issues or deviation reports to administrator in Protus
• Contribute to orderliness in the workshop in accordance with the cleaning areas
• Use and maintain personal equipment and report damaged common equipment, specifically test equipment
• Skilled operators of workshop machinery such as lathes, milling cutters, pipe benders
• Follow labour regulations according to information on Volvos Employee Center

Required Competencies
• Ability to express/understand the Swedish language
• Broad product knowledge
• Technical competence and judgement ability
• Verification and validation
• Knowledge of production methods
• Installation and preparation of test equipment such as instruments for measuring temperature and pressure, accelerometer, tachometer
• Skilled operators of workshop machinery such as lathes, milling cutters, pipe benders
Specialty Knowledge
• Correct positioning of test equipment in order to achieve best readings
• Proper mounting technique (i.e. glue, welding)
• Careful handling of sensitive instruments
• Efficiently organize a large number of testing points
• Detect irrelevant data or equipment (i.e. normal temperatures or pressure)
• Problem solving for alternative solution for accurate values
• Good experience or certified Hybrid Technician when measuring electric components
• Driver's experience for diagnostic purposes (i.e detect uneven rear axle ratio, detact valve noise
• Download of software and fault tracing in Canalyze, Techtool
Health and Safety
• "Heta Arbeten" (regulations stipulate education for work with hot tools)
• Building scaffolds up to 9 meters (regulations stipulate education)
• Operation of lifting devices (regulations stipulate education)
• Forklift and lifting devices licenses
• Bus driver's license and competence
• Educated in work environment regulations due to legal requirements, recommendations and guidelines (Arbetarskyddsstyrelsens författningssamling)

• Ability to express/understand the English language in his/her technical area
• Ability to share experience with others and transform it into added value
Authorities
• Authority to request access to necessary information to perform the work
• Authority to adapt the work according to required safety and environment
• Authority to stop work if it doesn't comply with safety regulations
