Would you like to shape the future of transportation technology? Are you skilled in materials technology and want to work with analysis and material related questions for electrical hardware components? Do you like to work with projects, planning, materials investigations and having an open dialogue with your stakeholders? Then you should join our team!

This is us

At Volvo Materials Technology in Gothenburg we are a team of more than 35 highly qualified engineers. We support the development of Volvo's products by using our specialist knowledge in materials for aftermarket and all stages during product design. Materials Technology is organized within the section Verification, Testing and Materials Technology.

We have a state-of-the-art materials laboratory that helps us in delivering materials services to all Volvo Group Brands Worldwide. We improve the experience and quality of Volvo Groups products by analyzing and solving field and production issues, supplier quality and material development, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams.

We work closely with stakeholders within Volvo Group to understand their strategies and devise solutions to support and boost the competitive advantage. We act as a global internal consultant service within Volvo Group and therefore deal with a wide variety of components, parts, and materials.

This is what you will do

As the Volvo Group is moving forward in full speed within electromobility applications, the need for expertise within sensors, electrical connectors, PCBs and cables increases. You will have a leading role in supporting the organization with knowledge and know-how within the field of electrical hardware from a material perspective.

You will deliver materials related analysis and recommendations for decisions in both development projects and towards production, such as electrical characterization and performing failure analysis to determine the root cause of quality issues. You will communicate your results in both written and oral form to people within the Volvo organization. The role requires extensive hands-on work in the laboratory focused on failure analysis and support during verification of products.

You will also take an active part in continuous improvements of the laboratory, involving equipment responsibility and method development.

The position is based on site in Gothenburg. Travel may be needed occasionally.

Relevant experience

We believe that you are an MSc in materials science or equivalent with a background within electrical hardware, contactor material and/or printed circuit boards.

To be successful in this role you have proven experience from cross-functional collaboration, worked directly with product designer, quality department and responsible engineers and have driven your own assignments to complete failure analysis and proposed countermeasures.

Experience from investigation, development, and failure analysis of materials within the electrical hardware field is a must. We expect that you have as minimum 7+ years of experience. It is a merit if you have general business know-how of working within a global manufacturing company or large consultant company. Other merits are:
Experience with common failure analysis techniques and sample preparation methods of metallic or ceramic materials.
Experience with analysis equipment's such as optical microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray, SAM and oscilloscopes etc.
Have worked as support or similar in design reviews and FMEAs related to material selection is a merit.
Have experience with supporting of a production line of electrical components is a merit.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Swedish is a merit.

Personal qualifications:

You have a can-do attitude and are willing to learn new things. You enjoy working within a Team, but likewise able to work independently with external stakeholders and to lead your own projects. You can capture customers' needs or problems and help them to contextualize ideas to investigative actions and test methods within the materials field.

You can adapt in a quick-moving environment where plans and prerequisites can change on short notice and new tasks sometimes may become top priority if critical issues arise somewhere in the company. You like to share knowledge with others and at the same time feel comfortable asking your colleagues for support where and when needed.

We value the strength given by differences in background, knowledge, age, gender and nationality.

We are looking forward to your application.
