Materials Design Alloy Specialist
Are you creative and structured?
WE LIKE THAT ABOUT YOU
At Sandvik Materials Technology (SMT) our mission is much more than to just handle good products, technology and processes - working together to develop solutions based on our customers' needs, and, thereby, achieving our business goals is a better description of our daily work. With curious co-workers and safety as our first priority, we create a work environment where you can grow both personally and professionally.
The Research & Innovation (R&I) team is a central function at SMT supporting all production areas and we work with the more long-term strategical goal, to move the company in a materials (r)evolution direction. It can be within titanium powder, hyperduplex steel bar, new superalloys, specialized additive manufacturing materials etc. You would be a part of a very diverse team with deep knowledge from several different technology areas, e.g. corrosion, welding metallurgy, high temp materials, hot ductility, advanced analysis etc. The team strength is that we combine this knowledge and work together in several projects to reach the next level in materials design. We like to keep an open door in our workplace and welcome spontaneous discussions. The projects we drive are knowledge building, in a lean product development manner, and after reaching proof of concept we hand over the projects to product development for large scale ramp-up. We work in the forefront of this scientific field, including ICME and other new methods.
To strengthen our competence within research, and more specifically in materials design, we are now looking for a creative and goal-oriented specialist/project leader to join us in Sandviken (Sweden). You have a true passion and enthusiasm for the future development of materials and alloys and we offer you an inspiring research environment at the frontline of an exciting area of technology.
Job Summary
As an R&D alloy specialist you will have a broad spectrum of duties and will be a key contact person for different kinds of material development. Your primary responsibility is to increase the knowledge of conventional and powder metallurgy by running projects for alloy development. You are also expected to keep up with the latest findings in the industry and academics regarding alloys and other materials. This is an opportunity to truly make a mark in the field of materials and you are expected to be part of leveraging Sandvik's material expertise.
Our projects and assignments are based on technical requirements and demands from both external customers and the internal sales & marketing organization. You enjoy collaborating and communicating with multiple stakeholders maintaining qualitative and prosperous relationships with e.g. customers and universities.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master of Science (MSc.) degree, or a PhD, and some years' experience from materials research - in particular within alloy development or powder metallurgy. It is an advantage with experience from steel, superalloys and/or titanium research and production processes. Research project management knowhow is a great benefit in order to be successful in this role.
We recognize and value your passion and personality which is characterized by your analytical and problem-solving approach. Your knowledge in your specific field in materials science makes you a person that people turn to, and your pedagogical and communicative manner allow you to easily spread competencies and knowledge. Additionally, you are structured and thorough, with the ability to finish what you start. All in all, you are a person who can both do the hands-on technical work and move projects forward in a pedagogical and inclusive way. As we interact in a global environment, we expect you to have excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
We are a company with an open-minded culture, actively working to create a workplace that is characterized by diversity and inclusion.
