Freemelt is a rapidly growing company. We provide world-leading solutions for 3D printing of metal components from metal powder. Our products are a seamless integration of advanced technologies, innovation, and know-how.
Career opportunities are abundant at Freemelt for people who want to contribute to a greener future, a future where materials are stronger and lighter and manufacturing processes are energy-efficient and waste-free.
Your role as a Materials and Process Engineer
You understand that 3D printing is not only about geometries, shapes and speed. The opportunity to create completely new materials and to tailor their material properties is equally important. As a material and process engineer you will work experimentally with development of metal powders and materials for our 3D printers, and you will also set up process strategies to print parts efficiently and with high quality and repeatability.
Your work
Design various build geometries for our 3D printers
Develop and program melt strategies to reach high productivity and materials quality
Prepare, run, and monitor our 3D printers
Evaluate and optimize powders and materials in collaboration with external materials laboratories
Summarize your results and conclusions in reports, for internal use and sometimes for external clients
Assist and educate Freemelt's customers in your areas of expertise
What we offer
An open and dynamic environment with committed and highly creative people moving forward at high pace
An exciting broad work role with varied tasks at the cutting edge of 3D printing technology
A small organization where every person is unique and makes a difference
Who you are?
You have a doctor's degree in physics or materials science, or equivalent technical education/experience. Programming skills are also needed, particularly Python programming.
You master English unhindered in speech and writing. Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage but not compulsory.
It is meritorious with previous experience in experimental physics, materials science and metallurgy, or from other areas where you have developed technical problem-solving skills. Experience in 3D printing and metal powder technologies is a plus.
To be successful, you must be self-propelled and passionate about understanding and solving technical problems. You have an eye for detail and understand that small changes in a process can make a big difference in the final result. You also understand that experimental work involves success as well as failure - thus grit and persistence is in your personality.
You must enjoy working with protective clothing and respirator, since your tasks will involve frequent laboratory work with metal powders that can be hazardous. For this reason, you must put safety first in all your actions.
We value
Willingness to take on a variety of tasks, theoretically and practically, from writing Python code at your desk to metal powder sifting in the laboratory
Basic understanding of metals, their material properties and material test methods
Commitment and communication/teamwork skills
An open and curious mind, always searching for solutions
