Material Impact Analyst
Company Description
As IKEA continues to grow, our ambition is to reach more customers while maintaining low prices and strengthening our position as the leader in affordable life at home. To achieve this, IKEA is accelerating key strategic priorities including affordability, material transformation, circularity, and smarter ways of working through trusted data and insights.
In Purchasing Development, our assignment goes hand in hand with the IKEA Business Idea as we are responsible for producing a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible can afford them. Together with our suppliers, we produce IKEA products with affordability, accessibility, sustainability, and quality as our main priorities.
Material transformation is one of IKEA's key strategic focus areas. As we increase the use of renewable, recycled, and innovative materials while reducing the environmental footprint of our products, understanding the impacts of materials and supply chains becomes increasingly important. We want to identify opportunities, evaluate emerging material solutions, and support the transition towards more sustainable affordable products. And that is where you, together with the Material Impact Assessment team, come in!
Job Description

As a Material Impact Analyst, you will help IKEA understand and reduce the environmental impacts of materials, products, and supply chains. By combining scientific analysis with business understanding, you will provide the data, insights, and recommendations needed to support material innovation, product development, sourcing decisions, and long-term sustainability goals.
Your assignment is to:
Conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), material impact assessments, and develop emission factors to help IKEA understand and reduce the environmental footprint of materials, products, and supply chains.
Provide environmental expertise to material transformation and sustainability initiatives, including a focus on emerging topics such as biogenic carbon, recycled and renewable materials, land use, and carbon capture utilisation (CCU).
Develop and maintain IKEA's environmental footprint data assets, including assurance-ready emission factors and LCA datasets, while collaborating with suppliers, data owners, and stakeholders to improve data quality, coverage, and representativeness.
Contribute to the development of environmental impact methodologies, reporting, and impact claims, to support credible, transparent, and fit-for-purpose environmental information for business decision-making and external communication.
Provide subject-matter expertise, training, and decision support to internal stakeholders and external partners, enabling fact-based decisions on materials, innovation priorities, and decarbonisation pathways.

You will report to the Material Impact Manager in Purchasing Development, Core Business Supply.
Qualifications

This role is critical to building and maintaining IKEA's internal capability to assess and improve the environmental performance of materials and products. Beyond delivering LCAs, you will contribute through supplier engagement, methodology development, environmental data management, environmental claims review, and strategic support for business decisions.
You will work closely with stakeholders across sustainability, materials, product development, sourcing, engineering, supply chain, climate, quality, and data management functions. Collaboration with colleagues and partners across multiple countries and business areas will be a natural part of your everyday work.
We are looking for someone who is collaborative, curious, and self-driven, with a strong ability to build trust and work effectively across functions, disciplines, and countries. You combine technical expertise with strong stakeholder management skills and can translate complex environmental insights into clear and actionable recommendations. You are motivated by continuous learning and improvement and enjoy finding practical solutions to complex sustainability challenges.
To be successful in this role, we believe that you have:
A master's degree in environmental engineering, Industrial Ecology, Material Science, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years of experience independently conducting detailed Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), from scoping to communication of results.
Strong knowledge of LCA methodology and environmental assessment standards, including ISO 14040/14044, Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), EN 15804, GHG Protocol, and related frameworks.
Experience assessing and interpreting environmental impacts, including climate change, biodiversity, water use and resource use and understanding how these impact categories can support business decision-making.
Experience developing and applying emission factors, environmental datasets, and impact models, with an understanding of data quality, representativeness, uncertainty, and assurance requirements.
Hands-on experience with LCA tools and databases such as SimaPro, OpenLCA, ecoinvent, or equivalent platforms.
Knowledge of materials and their environmental impacts, including emerging topics such as circularity, recycled and renewable materials and biogenic carbon.
The ability to translate complex environmental analyses into clear insights and recommendations that support material strategies, innovation, sustainability initiatives, and business decisions.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working across functions in a global and matrixed environment
A scientific, analytical, and curious mindset, balanced with the pragmatism needed to deliver actionable results.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
