Job Description
Title: Adaptation of logistics platform for circular construction material flows
Working on logistics and supply chain management issues has the potential to streamline the flow of materials and information, as well as increase the interaction between different actors to create added value for common end customers. Sectors such as the automotive and the pharmaceutical industry have come a long way in terms of logistics development. The construction industry, on the other hand, has just begun an exciting journey of development where the potential for improvement is great. Old ways of working are being questioned and new models and processes are being tested in pilot projects to explore the possibility of increasing productivity and safety, as well as reducing the impact on the climate and the environment around construction sites.
There are several initiatives in the market and the construction logistics toolbox is growing. AFRY has developed a concept consisting of different modules that can be adapted to the type of project. Actors at different levels (municipalities, regions, entrepreneurs, IT suppliers, wholesalers etc.) are developing their ways of working in parallel.
During the period May 2022 - April 2023, AFRY, together with Chalmers and Linköping University, conducted a research project with the aim of mapping the role of construction logistics as an enabler of circular material flows in the civil engineering sector. The study identified a number of logistical activities required in the process of reusing building materials and several activities that create the conditions for reuse. In AFRY's assignment as logistics partner for the Region of Västerbotten in the reconstruction of the hospital in Skellefteå, there are clear requirements for the reuse of materials in the construction process.
Objective
The aim of this master's thesis is to map out which of the logistics activities identified in the research project that can be provided by AFRY's current construction logistics platform, and whether there are potentially functions that need to be developed in order for the platform to create conditions for circular material flows.

Logistic platforms
We believe that suitable students currently enrolled in a master 's programme related to Supply Chain Management, have similar experiences from separate courses or personal interests.
