hela Sverige Transport solutions are a vital part of modern life as we know it. Sustainable transport solutions with low emissions will have increasing importance in the future.
The increased environmental and legislative demands is a great driver for new technology for heavy-duty vehicles. Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV's) are currently being developed at Volvo Group Trucks Technology (GTT) to meet the demands of the future.
It is challenging to thermally manage a FCEV without increasing the complexity of the cooling system design. To investigate the potential of reducing cooling system requirements, one can consider elevating the fuel cell's operating temperature. To accomplish this task, we need development of advanced mathematical models.
Suitable background
The project is suitable for 1 or 2 students with the ability to drive the work forward by being proactive, curious, and persistent. Suitable Background is a Master program in relevant engineering field. Extensive studies and high interest in mathematical modelling and simulations with previous experience from using Matlab or a similar simulation tool will be required.
Description of thesis work
The focus of this project will be on modelling water management in intermediate temperature Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel cells and validate the model by means of experimental data. Effective water management is crucial for FC performance and aging.
