At Saab, we constantly look ahead and push boundaries for what is considered technically possible. We collaborate with colleagues around the world who all share our challenge - to make the world a safer place.

What you will be a part of
Surveillance provides efficient solutions for safety and security, for surveillance and decision support, and for threat detection and protection. The portfolio covers airborne, ground-based and naval radar, electronic warfare, combat systems and C4I solutions, and traffic management systems.
The project will be performed within the systems management department of Airborne in Saab Surveillance, located in Linköping.

Your role
The early stages of a project have the greatest opportunity to optimize the design of the system, but this is also when the least is known about the system. This makes modelling and simulation critical to the design choices of any complex system.
In this case the novel installion of a sensor on an aircraft presents some uncertainties regarding magnetic field effects. Understanding the magnetic field effects through modelling is essential to make optimal design decisions that affect the entire lifecycle of the Aircraft.
This thesis will involve constructing a model of the magnetic field of a jet aircraft and using this model to inform design decisions. In order to achieve this you are expected to select a modelling method, develop a suitable model, demonstrate your findings and provide recommendations for the design of the sensor installation. This will require close co-operation with aircraft and sensor specialists within Saab and academia.
Through this work, you will gain an understanding of the overall design and operation of complex aeronautical systems and contribute to an ongoing project.

Your skills and experience
This thesis work is suitable for one or two masters students. It is anticipated that you have a background in Engineering Physics, Electrical or Aeronautical Engineering and are interested in modelling and simulation. Other engineering disciplines or a Physics background may also be suitable.
Basic skills in mathematical and finite-element modelling packages is required and some familiarity with engineering drawings and specifications is highly desirable. Of course, an interest in aircraft and aviation is beneficial.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
The position entails working with classified information. Therefore, you are required to participate in and pass a security test conducted by authority.
