What you will be a part of
In avionics equipment the demand for performance is increasing in e.g. mission planning, sensor-fusion and radar applications, which is the reason that we often use very advanced multi-core processors. These state-of the-art CPUs are very complex to verify and may therefore contain undetected bugs which may lead to failures in the aircraft system. It is therefore vital to gain experience and service hours from the usage of the component. This is called Product Service Experience. The proposed thesis will increase our knowledge in this area and also provide us with a tool to gain Product Service Experience for new components.

The Master's thesis concerns theoretical and practical analyses of the feasibility of the different ANSI/ISO C-standards C90, C99 and C11 for development of safety critical avionics systems.Task description
The Master's thesis will be divided into four steps:
Step 1) A theoretic study of the differences of the C language features of ANSI/ISO C99 and C11 in relation to C90.
Step 2) An analysis of which added C99/C11 language features are beneficial and which are potentially harmful in the context of developing safety critical avionics systems.
Step 3) A survey of the most used cross compilers regarding the level of support for the C99/C11 features found beneficial in Step 2.
Step 4) (Optional) A detailed update proposal for an existing C90 code standard based on the result.
Your job will include planning, specification and documentation of the result for each step of the work.
Your skills and experience
Qualifications
A Master's student or a student within the 'Civilingenjörsutbildning' may apply for the position and is carried out in Jönköping. It is requires excellent knowledge in C programming language. Excellent skills in both speaking and writing in Swedish and English are required. The position entails working with classified information and requires Swedish citizenship.
