Master Thesis - The collaborative robots' and automated guided vehicles' place in low volume and high mix manufaturing

Join us on our journey into the future #FutureMakers#Siemens

Be part of an open and dynamic workplace where professional and personal development is high on the agenda. By making sustainable energy solutions more cost effective, developing new technologies for the future's smart industry and electrifying passenger and freight transport, we make reality of our vision of a sustainable world.

In recent years the development of Collaborative robots (Cobot) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) have accelerated. This has opened new possibilities for low volume and high mix manufacturing companies such as Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery. The flexibility of work tasks, relatively easy setup and possibility to work close to the human worker are attributes that have the possibility to increase the return of investment compared to conventional robot cells.

The challenge - both challenging and future-oriented

The topic of your Master Thesis will be to develop a Cobot and AGV evaluation tool in low volume and high mix manufacturing. Your tasks will be:

• Screen the market for available Cobot and AGV solutions.
• Develop a manufacturing evaluation tool for Cobot and AGV based on the market screening, i.e. how well suited is a machine, cell or work task to be replaced by a Cobot or AGV? What actions are needed?
• Perform a case study at Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery.

Who are you?

• You are a student of Mechanical engineering, Mechatronics, Computer or Automation Technology
• Future oriented with automation interests
• Good communication skills in English
