You will be part of the Fluid Dynamic Lab team as Master Student. We are offering two positions that requires involvement in two different projects connected to two different test methods: QSSHT rig and TLC rig.

With regards to the QSST rig your Diploma Thesis has the aim to use an existing test rig for investigating the heat transfer inside additively manufactured test objects with varying internal geometries. The test object will be insulated and heated up by a heat foil. Thereafter, the internal geometry is subjected to a flow at constant temperature and mass flow. As steady state is reached, the energy balance is used for calculating the internal heat transfer coefficient. This test rig is usually referred as QSSHT (Quasi Steady State Heat Transfer).

With regards to the TLC rig your Diploma Thesis has the aim to use an existing experimental test rig for investigating transpiration cooling through additively manufactured porous structures using the semi-infinite assumption to obtain heat transfer coefficient and film cooling effectiveness from transient experiments. The test rig uses the change in color of thermochromic liquid crystals visualized by a camera to get the temperature field of the surface where the heat transfer is analyzed. This rig is therefore referred as TLC (Thermochromic Liquid Crystals) rig .

Given the complexity of the projects which includes testing and evaluation, we expect to have you on site for a period of 7 months and this apply for both projects. Expected start of the work is the beginning of April 2022.

Your profile

The goal of each of our Diploma Thesis' is to create a work of publication quality. Therefore, your profile should show knowledge and skills like:
* gas fluid dynamics
* dimensional similarity
* numerical methods and Matlab.
* good skills in English language are required both in speech and writing.

Your responsibilities

You will be responsible to perform the following tasks:
* Literature review
* Test rig preparation for testing
* Perform testing
* Analysis of test results
* Apply changes on the test rig, test procedure or analysis to improve the results
* Final report/presentation writing

Your opportunities for personal growth:

During the thesis you will acquire improved skills in dimensional analysis, data acquisition and mass flow/pressure/temperature measurements. Basic knowledge in additive manufacturing will be obtained as a part of the work. You will be assigned an experienced supervisor that will support you during the whole period.

Some of previous student projects from the lab have been accepted for publication in the Journal of Turbomachinery and/or at ASME Turbo Expo (TURBO-14-1171, GT2014-25619, GT2015-42475, GT2017-64143, GT2018-75019).
