Infinite motion for the future"
InfiMotion Technology develops, manufactures, and sells high performance electric drive units for fully electric vehicles, addressing the whole value chain, including production software and single components.

InfiMotion was founded in 2021 in Wuxi, China, and lead investors are companies such as Geely Auto, Lotus and Ningbo Luma, with a professional board of directors with experienced powertrain and automotive executives from well-known Geely Holding companies.

By the end of 2022, InfiMotion aims to have 700 experienced employees across two R&D Centers in Gothenburg Sweden and in Wuxi China. The InfiMotion team has been responsible for over two million sold units to date, by which over 90 000 were delivered to the European market. The first batch of new high-performance products will go into production in late 2022.

Title: Evaluation of 2- and 3-level inverter topologies for high performance Electric Drive Units

Background:

InfiMotion Technology Europe is developing state of the art high performance Electric Drive Units (EDUs). In general, an EDU is composed of an inverter, an electric machine, and a transmission. InfiMotion believes that the optimal EDU design is achieved by optimizing the EDU system as a whole by doing trade off studies and cosimulation. To do this, good knowledge of different topologies and their impact on other parts of the system as well as models for simulation are needed.

Scope:

The overall aim is to investigate and compare the trade offs of 2- and 3-level inverters in the context of a high performance Electric Drive Unit.

Goals:

• Explore the design space by literature studies on 2- and 3-level inverter topologies suitable for high performance EDUs
• Define and perform case studies in the context of EDU system
• Build simulation models of proposed inverter topologies
• Investigation of impact on system cost, weight and efficiency for proposed inverter topologies
• Inverter simulation and cosimulation in an EDU system
• Analyze results and impact on EDU level design
• Recommendation for when 2- respective 3-level inverter design is advicable for EDU system

Prerequisites:

• Master student in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or similar
• Ability to take initiative and work independently
• Good knowledge of power electronics, inverters, and electric machines
• Good knowledge of power electronic simulation
