The Machining R&D department focuses on improving machining efficiency and reducing cost per part for customer components in ISO-S materials (titanium and super alloys etc) to the aerospace, automotive and oil&gas industry. Our mission is to develop and deliver innovative machining solutions at the forefront of new technology! Our research and development is conducted in close cooperation with customers, research centers and our own global product development. Machining R&D is part of our global R&D function and the team consists of ten employees plus the test workshop with advanced machines and equipment.

We are now looking for a Machining Development Engineer where you develop machining knowledge in metal cutting to support Sandvik Coromant's efforts in Digital Machining and Industry 4.0.

Key performance areas
As a Machining Development Engineer, you are responsible for developing machining knowledge for key components and features of the Aerospace industry with the aim of Sandvik Coromant having a market leading position in the area. You start, execute and finish projects to support the development of machining knowledge for prioritized components and features according to customer needs and demands. You perform development testing at Machining R&D test workshop to evaluate the ideas based on data from the machines; work in collaboration with global specialists and machine operators on the latest CNC machinery; and analyze the results of tests. If necessary, you develop new ideas for new development loops or summarize results and conclusions in reports and presentations.

You share the knowledge by working closely with Component Managers from the Component Management department to launch component feature solutions internally and externally. In addition, you support customer projects, internal/external trainings and collaborate with other R&D centers in knowledge sharing. Furthermore, you monitor technology developments in the field through customer visits, exhibitions and technical literature.

As you can see, an exciting part of this role is international travel to customers, and other sites, to share knowledge and view machining in daily use.

Your profile
We are looking for someone with at least a Bachelor or Master of Science, or who has the obtained equivalent level of knowledge through work experience. You have three to five years of relevant experience from the manufacturing or metal cutting industry and R&D. You also have experience with project management, conducting analyses and creating documentation. Experience from the aerospace or oil & gas industry is beneficial, as is work with machining development, machining strategies and knowledge of FEM and Matlab. You have good communication, presentation and language skills, in both written and spoken English and Swedish.
