Logistics Engineer -Multi Modal Transport Planning & Control

The role, Logistics Engineer - Multi Modal Transport Planning & Control, is located within the Inbound Logistics organisation (IBL) and will report to the Manager Multi Modal Transport Planning & Control. The role is mix of operational and tactical planning tasks across a wide range of business areas within Volvo Cars and is based in Gothenburg, Sweden. The purpose of this central function is to provide our internal customers within Europe with best in class logistics solutions from early planning phases of projects to operational deliveries. We are mandated and have a commitment to deliver on time, on budget with a service mind-set.

Main responsibilities

• Oversee and plan Premium, Overseas and General Cargo projects and shipments
• Plan and implement Project based cargo shipments (e.g. tooling and dies for new car models) alongside internal stakeholders. Above this amount work alongside Indirect Purchasing (IDP) to source technically and commercially sound solutions
• Lead major RFQ's from a stakeholder perspective, working alongside IDP as assigned, representing the relevant business area e.g. Premium, General Cargo, and Overseas
• Regularly interact with stakeholders within VOLVO CARS to address concerns or issues and report feedback regarding process improvements. This will involve travel to various sites in Sweden and Belgium as needed
• Provide input and feedback regarding Premium, Overseas and General Cargo processes where improvement opportunities or issues are identified
• Provide out of hours support by standby duty as needed. This shared between 'Multi Modal Transport Planning and Control' and 'Road Transport Control' teams on rotation - approx. once per 12 calendar weeks per person

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in freight forwarding, logistics or supply chain
• Strong customer-focus and service mind-set with the ability to build and maintain relationships both internally and externally
• Experience of negotiating rates
• Experience of managing multiple complex relationships
• Understanding of general freight forwarding rules/regulations e.g. Inco-terms
• Good understanding of transportation documentation and export/import requirements including the practical use of ATA Carnet
• Ability to communicate findings, make recommendations, and facilitate change
• Experience working within a global context and multi-cultural environment
• Ability to take difficult conversations both internally and externally to secure deliverables

• Strong communication skills and excellent track record as team player
• The ability to work alone or as part of a larger team
