Do you want to be part of shaping the future of the world's mining and mineral industry?
Rock Engineering section at Kiruna mine
Mining in the Kiruna mine is moving towards greater depths, which brings increased challenges.
The rock engineering section identifies hazards and options for all planning and implementation phases thus enabling safe mine operations and reliable production forecasts. This is based on sound orebody knowledge and examining the operation holistically. Close integration with planning and operations is maintained to achieve this mission. An important task is also to monitor and analyze the environmental impact of the country rock caused using the sublevel caving method. Reliable forecasts of ground deformation and the impact of seismic events on the community and LKAB's industrial area are essential for planning decommissioning and redevelopment.
The section consists of an operational group and an analysis / strategy group that is organized in an agile way with so-called focus areas led by technical leaders (function-based work). Based on the skills, our people work across the different focus areas (function-based work). The section is characterized by great diversity in every way.
Your qualifications:
All positions require a strong interest in identifying and overcoming the challenges inherent to deep, large-scale underground mining. Qualities fundamental to these jobs are a passion for technology and problem-solving, a strong interest in suggesting and testing new solutions, and good analytical abilities. You enjoy teamwork and have good communication skills and are interested in expanding our international network of contacts.
You are experienced in one or several of the following areas:
• rock mechanics
• geotechnical numerical analysis
• mine seismology
• mine layout/sequence to minimise seismicity
• support to minimise rock burst damage
• application of preconditioning techniques, e.g. blasting and/or hydraulic fracturing
Higher academic education and multi-year industrial experience is of great importance. Depending on your actual qualifications and level of experience a variety of different positions, both wide and/or deep in its content, exist. Demonstrated ability to use mine planning software and specialized geotechnical and seismic software is of relevance.
Kiruna is the place to work
You will be based in the city of Kiruna, with a population of approximately 23 000, situated in Swedish Lapland, above the Arctic Circle. The community of the same name is spread out over vast areas and offer great opportunities for fantastic outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, skiing, ice climbing, fishing, hunting etc.
